Secretarial ComplianceThe Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on August 13, 2026, issued the Consultation Paper on the review of the Accredited Investor framework.

The following has been stated:

• SEBI has issued a Consultation Paper on the review of the Accredited Investor (AI) framework, to make the accreditation process more efficient and facilitate greater participation of sophisticated investors in the securities market. The review builds upon SEBI’s earlier measures to simplify accreditation and the recommendations of the Alternative Investment Policy Advisory Committee (AIPAC).

• The proposals primarily seek to strengthen and streamline the accreditation mechanism, including greater use of the KYC Registration Agency (KRA) ecosystem as accreditation agencies and enabling faster onboarding of Accredited Investors through initial due diligence by AIF managers. The proposed framework is intended to increase the number of accreditation agencies, improve competition and operational efficiency, and reduce delays in onboarding investors, while retaining safeguards such as formal accreditation before investor funds are accepted.

• The last date to submit comments is September 03, 2026.
